Sound Design Fundamentals: From Recording to Processing

Most sound designers spend years figuring out their workflow through trial and error. This program compresses that learning curve into practical, hands-on sessions.

You will work with real project briefs similar to what studios actually request. We cover field recording techniques that go beyond pointing a microphone at things, including contact mics, hydrophones, and unconventional recording methods that produce unique source material.

What Makes This Different

The synthesis section focuses on subtractive, FM, and granular methods with actual use cases. No endless theory about waveforms. You will build specific sounds: engine rumbles, sci-fi interfaces, organic textures, impact designs.

Processing chains matter more than plugins. We break down parallel compression, spectral editing, and convolution reverb in context. You will understand why certain effects work for certain materials and how to troubleshoot when something sounds wrong.

Tools and Workflow

We use industry-standard software but focus on principles that transfer across any DAW. The program includes sessions on organizing sample libraries, naming conventions that actually help during crunch time, and building reusable effect racks.

By the end, you will have a portfolio of original sounds and the technical foundation to keep improving on your own.
